Former Poplar Bus Depot, Leven Road
This large-scale urban regeneration scheme is located along Leven Road, within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The project will retain the historic fabric at the site, in the form of the tram shed façade and existing Edwardian office building. It will consist of a new perimeter block and three cylindrical towers with views onto the River Lea. It will provide 530 residential units, workspace, retail, restaurants and new areas of public realm.
BLDA Consultancy worked closely with Leven Road LLP and CZWG Architects on minimising impacts on amenity levels within the existing buildings along Leven Road, which resulted in a tailored cutback to the permitter massing in order to reduce adverse effects to the primary living rooms within the neighbouring dwellings. At the same time, we provided inputs into the iterative design development process relating to the proposed units of the development itself, with an aim of ensuring that all the primary living areas enjoy ample levels of natural light. An Environmental Statement (ES) chapter and supporting reports were produced for the scheme, which resulted in planning permission from Tower Hamlets Council in July 2020.
